New James Rabbit Band Video, Jamie As Starlet:

Jamie Burkart, our friend and farmer, posted some great words about the band and our new video over on his blog. It’s also got Gorpsfield and a James Rabbit slideshow that, if you watch it long enough, rewards you with two ladies having a wonderful time in a bakery.

We’ll be in a Santa Cruz recording studio all weekend, except for during breakfast. So come have breakfast!

Compiled by friends and band members, covering five years and eight albums, it’s James Rabbit Express! Our catalog, whittled into something you could hear in an hour (with breaks). Put it on a thing and leave it on the bus.

In a few weeks we’ll be in the studio (the real kind) recording songs we’ve practiced, and sooner than that we’ll show you a pretty good new music video.

Our last 10 albums are up on the bandcamp, but in two weeks they’ll be replaced by a single compilation of JR favorites codes. So download them now, before they’re gone! Some are three bucks, most are free, all are James Rabbit albums. I’m talkin’ ‘bout Cactuses, Colossuses, Continental and Snowblind. I’m talkin’ ‘bout Splendor, Splitsville, and Allies. I’m talkin’ ‘bout Cyclorama. I’m talkin’ ‘bout Perfect Waves.

In February we’ll be in the studio recording a brand new one, The Vision of Fury That Sings in My Head, and then those others won’t matter. After that, big tour.

James Rabbit “Glimmer On Down”

Tyler Martin, the primary songwriter of the Santa Cruz band James Rabbit, has always had a major romantic streak. It’s one of the most charming things about him, really — he comes off like a starry-eyed sweetheart who believes in true love and grand gestures, even in spite of persistent anxiety and awkwardness. “Glimmer On Down” is his most elegant expression of this romantic streak. There are some moment where the band’s characteristic wired angst comes through, but this is mostly graceful and lovely, complete with tinkling piano, old movie strings, swelling brass and a female backing vocal part that seems as it if it just wandered in from a Dirty Projectors rehearsal. In print that may seem a bit overstuffed, but the arrangement is so careful and thoughtful that every sound has its moment and it all comes out sounding light and swoony.

If you live where we’re going, that’s why we’re going there! We have songs and lights and jokes for you! We’re bringing Iji with us to every show for you! Check the dates!
